<div itemprop="description">It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Anne Kirk, Monday, September 28th 2015, at the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Hospital in her 85th year. She was a loving and proud wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.<br />Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of C. Edmund and Blanche Mae (Driscoll) Murray, and raised in Halifax, NS. Educated at College Street School, St. Patrick&rsquo;s High School and Mount Saint Vincent University she went to work as a Medical Secretary.<br />Shirley studied music and voice and was a member of the famous Armdale Chorus, The Royal Halifax Tattoo Chorus, St. Peter&rsquo;s Church Choir and St. John the Baptist Choir. She was devoted to her family, became a hockey mom to Ian and a skaters mom to Heather and Bonnie. She was an avid volunteer at numerous figure skating events, notably the World Figure Skating Championships in Halifax, where she was a Board Member. Her other activities included bridge, Professional Engineers Wives Organization, the IWK Kermesse, and an intense study of family genealogy for over 20 years.<br />She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Daniel. She is survived by son, Ian (Halifax), daughters, Bonnie and Heather (Toronto), granddaughters Lauren and Julia (Halifax), sister Doreen (Hoskin) and brother Edmund Murray (Halifax) and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.<br />Shirley&rsquo;s family wish to thank the staff of Melville Heights Retirement Residence, Dr. Frances Moriarty, and the staff of the ninth floor Abbie Lane Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass in celebration of Shirley&rsquo;s life will be held at 10 am on Friday, October 2, at St. Peter&rsquo;s Roman Catholic Church, 10 Maple Street, Dartmouth. Father James Richards and Deacon Jack MacNeil officiating. Reception to follow. Private interment. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
