<div itemprop="description">Smith (Mader), Mary Elizabeth – age 72 of Dartmouth passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax in 1945 she was daughter of the late Frank and Clarice (Mackinnon) Mader. Mary graduated from the Mount St. Vincent Academy in 1962 and later studied and became a registered medical cytotechnologist. Mary lived with metastatic breast cancer for 28 years. Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frank; daughter, Cathy (Blair) Ross, Ottawa; sons, Daniel (Susan), Michael (Stacy) and Paul all of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Rachel and Gabrielle Ross, Lucas and William Smith and J’lynne Doyle; siblings, Karen Mader (Gerry Miller), Bill (Diane) Mader, Stephen Mader (Noreen Balfe) and Tim (Judy) Mader. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Christopher. A cherished member of Bosom Buddies of Nova Scotia, Mary was a passionate Dragon Boater who paddled in several festivals throughout Canada since 2005. In addition Mary enjoyed scrapbooking, bowling, kayaking, bridge and having social time with friends and family. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm Thursday, February 9 in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Funeral Mass to be held 11 am Friday, February 10 in St. Peters Catholic Church, reception to follow in church hall. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Bosom Buddies of Nova Scotia, Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
