It is with great sadness that the family of J. Brian Naugle announce his passing on April 11, 2016 at his home in Eastern Passage surrounded by loving family.

Born in Halifax, Brian was a son of the late Lillian Gertrude (Dalman) and Willard Russell Naugle.

“Big Brian”, as he was known to most, had a passion for construction and spent the majority of his career in the construction industry. He started in business at a young age as the owner of J. Brian Naugle Contracting, later becoming co-owner of Wee Rent It Ltd. Brian made a trial run at retirement while operating the fishing tackle shop, “Fishing Fever”. He was an avid bass fisherman, participating and winning tournaments in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. His son and wife spent countless hours sharing Brian’s love of fishing. His passion for business was rekindled when he co-founded Brycon Construction Limited with his son Bryan, helping to grow the business into a multi-discipline civil contractor working throughout the province. Working alongside Bryan and daughter Francene in the family business, and watching its growth, became a tremendous source of pride for Brian. In earlier years, Brian could be found playing with the band, Fossil, or serving the residents of Eastern Passage as a county councillor, King Lion, and also served on the board at Ocean View Manor. Later years saw Brian and the love of his life, Brenda, spending time together in Florida during the winter months. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and following Nicholas’ racing adventures. Family was everything and there was no way for “Big Brian” to hide his pride when sharing stories of their adventures and accomplishments. He was their provider, their coach, their mentor, and biggest fan.
Brian is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Brenda Henneberry, son Bryan (Connie), daughter Francene (Mark) Kidson; and grandchildren Brianne, Nicholas and Brett, all of Dartmouth; sisters Sheree (Charles) Naugle; and Judy (Richard) L’Heureux; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Brian was predeceased by his brother, Alfred Tyke.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, April 17th from 1-4 pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, NS.
