Purcell (Shunahan) Gertrude Mary “Trudy” Passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Wednesday April 20, 2016 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Halifax, Trudy was the daughter of the late Murray and Hilda (Sullivan) Shunahan. She lived most of her adult life in Dartmouth, and is survived by her sons Stephen (Carla) of Waverley, and Terry (Denise) of Dartmouth; grandchildren Nicholas, Kayleigh, Gabriel, and Dylan; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Cyril in 2008; brothers Murray (in infancy), Vernon and sister Elaine.

A devout Christian her entire life, Trudy always gave more than she ever wanted to receive and she left a lasting impression with everyone she met. While working at Canada Post she met Cyril, the love of her live and soul mate with whom she spent a happy 45 years until the time of his death. She was greatly loved by her family and nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook who hosted many a noisy Sunday family supper. Trudy was an avid crafter who gave many of her knitted, crocheted and other creations to support charities. She was always the first to have a plate of sandwiches or sweets for any occasion. She was a longstanding member of the Catholic Women's League and the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary.

Visitation will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St. Dartmouth, on Thursday April 28 from 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 15 Caledonia Road, Dartmouth on Friday April 29 at 11 am, Father Irek Bem officiating. Reception to follow at the church.
