MCKEOWN-BAINBRIDGE, GLADYS
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gladys Mary McKeown-Bainbridge on March 12, 2017 at the age of 94, beloved mother, grandmother, wife and aunt. Gladys was born on July 13, 1922 in Ellershouse, NS. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Lazenby of Halifax. She is predeceased by three sons, Richard (January 1985), Kevin (March 1986) and Michael (July 1988), first husband Thomas Edmund McKeown (December 1983) and second husband, George Bainbridge (April 2012). She is survived by her grandson Michael McKeown of Edmonton, nephew Paul McKeown (Anne) of Dartmouth, nephew Eric Scott of Kelowna, niece Elaine Rotor (David) of Melbourne, Australia, and niece Debra Scott of Ottawa. She is also predeceased by nephew Christopher Scott of Surrey, B.C. and granddaughter Tia. Gladys was one of the strongest women ever, surviving great sorrow first in the deaths of her three young sons, followed by her beloved husband, Tom. She was rescued by the love of her second husband, George Bainbridge, who loved and cared for her devoutly until his passing. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her for her love of life, her wonderful smile and her perseverance despite overwhelming odds. The family is deeply appreciative of the care provided Gladys in her last years by the Carter Care Home of Dartmouth. In Memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Fund of Nova Scotia. Visitation will take place at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street on Thursday March 16, 2017 from 6-8 PM. Service will held at same location on Friday March 17 at 10 AM followed by light refreshments. A private interment will take place at Oakridge Memorial Garden in Sackville.
Online condolences may be made by visiting the Dartmouth Chapel at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
