It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Lorna Jean Newman (McAuley) at age 75 of Dartmouth. She passed away July 15th, 2016 at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on August 10th, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Fred McAuley and Annie King McAuley (Pitt).

Anyone who knew mom knows she loved to play darts. In her younger years she won the New Brunswick Provincial Championship. She also loved to fish, especially ice fishing in Dominion Park Beach where she would faithfully squat any unoccupied fishing shack. Thank you to all those who built her a shack. Mom was probably known best for her great sense of humor and laughter that would fill a room.

She is survived by daughters Kimberly Newman, Winnipeg; Lori (Chris) Smallwood; Cheryl Newman; and son David Newman all of Dartmouth; step-daughter Beverly Sullivan and step-son Danny Newman, both of Saint John, NB, sisters Lois (Douglas) Best of St. John, New Brunswick; Joan (Joe) Mortimer, St. John, New Brunswick; as well as eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Earl Newman; brothers Donald; Tommy; Gerry; sisters Rose Marie Totten, and Vera in infancy, as well as close friend Theresa Leger.

Keeping with Lorna’s wishes there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday July 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm from Castle Funeral Home Chapel (309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB 634-1701), with interment in Cedar Hill Extension.

Donations in Lorna’s memory can be made to the New Brunswick Children's Foundation or a charity of your choice.

True to her nature, Mom fought until the very end. Her passing was made very peaceful with the help of the Doctors and Nurses from 4.1, 4.2, and 3 IMCU at the Halifax Infirmary. Thank you, we will be forever grateful.
