<div itemprop="description">Jennifer Straughan January 23, 1933 – March 01, 2017 <br> <br>It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Jennifer Straughan, a long time resident of Cole Harbour, Wednesday March 1 2017. <br> <br>Jennifer was born in Hexham, UK. She and husband Leslie emigrated with their daughters to Canada in 1967 and made their home in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. Jen was a major contributor to the early development of the Colby Village Community. Her love of children evidenced through many contributions She was involved in the Girl Guides, as a District Commissioner and was a key contributor to the establishment of the Colby Village Pre-School, which continues to thrive today. In later years Jen became an avid quilter, with many of her dear friends in the Thursday Troupe. Jen was also a member of the Mayflower Quilters Guild along with the City Lakers Group, her talents benefitted those in need at Bryony House, VON and the Halifax Police Department. <br> <br>Jennifer was most recently a member of the St Vincent’s Guest Home Community, where she enjoyed many activities and made many new friends. <br> <br>Jennifer was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Leslie. Jen is survived by her daughters Hilary (Peter) and Beverley (Christopher) and her beloved grandchildren: Leigh (Laura), Alexander (Emilie), Evan, and Katie (Bethany), her sisters Winifred (UK) and Elizabeth (John) in South Africa, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews in the UK. <br> <br>The family of Jennifer would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of St Vincent’s, her community on the 3rd Floor, and a very special thank you to her “welcoming committee” Tracy, Debbie & Felicia. We would also like to convey our gratitude to her friends and frequent visitors, Carol, Pat and Jean. <br> <br>Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held 2:30 pm, Sunday March 5, 2017 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St, Dartmouth, NS. A reception following the service. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations can be made to St Vincent’s Guest Home, 2080 Windsor Street, Halifax.</div>
