<div itemprop="description">INKPEN, Gerald, Aubrey-83, of Dartmouth passed away on January 11, 2014 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary. <br /> <br />Born in Burin, Nfld, he was a son of the late Annie and Frank Inkpen. <br /> <br />Gerald worked at BIO on survey ships for many years. He then made a career change and became a salesperson for Electrolux where he worked until he opened his own business, Dartmouth Vacuum Rebuilders Ltd., where he continued to work until retiring in 2012. <br /> <br />An avid woodworker, he enjoyed building model wooden boats, birdhouses, and windjacks. Gerald loved spending time with family in Five Islands, Bay of Fundy, digging clams and he especially treasured time spend with his precious granddaughter Katie. <br /> <br />He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan (Day); sons, Ricky (Susan), Cole Harbour, Gary , Dartmouth; sister; Joan (Gary) Leaman, Ottawa; brothers, Freeman (Jean), Bruce (Dorothy), both of Burin, granddaughter Katie, several nieces and nephews. <br /> <br />Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday January 16th, from 2-4 and 7-9 at Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. The funeral service will take place on Friday January 17th at 2pm in the funeral home chapel, with a reception to follow. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens following service. <br /> <br />In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society.
