Kirby – Macfarlane, Carrie Elizabeth, 76 years old, of Dartmouth Nova Scotia, passed quietly away July 29, 2016 at the QEII. Born in Bayside, New Brunswick, she was the only daughter of the late King and Lyma (Mitton) Fillmore. Carrie worked in various branches of RBC across Canada as the manager 's secretary. Embarking upon a new career path in 1973, she joined Avon Canada as District Sales Manager. She continued along this path until retirement in 1990, winning numerous awards and trips not only for herself,, but also for her sales teams consisting of 200-300 Avon ladies. She led two of her teams to a carribean cruise and a trip to Hawaii. During her career Carrie enjoyed leading the Halifax, Cape Breton and Valley Districts.

Sociable and fun, Carrie would light up a room with her beautiful laughing blue eyes. Carrie was a diverse and interesting woman. She had many passions, some of those included her love of animals and her love of art craft specifically tole painting, although she dabbled a bit in oils (which she occasionally cursed :) And at the bridge table, she had many varied bridge partners all across the world with Bridge Base Online, a passion that she and Jim enjoyed greatly in their later years. Carrie enjoyed her ladies coffee club where she made lifetime friendships over bridge games and laughter. Carrie and Jim spent the last 10 years as snowbirds, which they greatly enjoyed. They now have friends all over the United States and Canada from the associations they had at the Camp Inn Resort in Frostproof, Florida.
An avid animal lover, some favorite furry friends were Trixie, Tammy, Teddy, Wendy, Bear and the beloved Miss Wedge. Did it stop there? Never!
The fine feathered friends in the neighbourhood all came running when mom would sit at the kitchen table. Her Blue Jays would chirp their songs and peck the windows looking for the peanuts she would invariably throw out to them just to watch their lovable antics.
One of her favourite things was to watch the hummingbirds feed at the feeders she had all over the gardens of Lake Charles Drive.

Carrie would try anything once (maybe twice). In the early 90s she decided to take up tole painting as daughter Darlene was teaching at the time. She excelled incredibly much to her own surprise. She went on to try her hand at oils and acrylics alike. Please take a moment and look at some of our favourite projects. Her family is extremely proud of her accomplishments.

As with all things she undertook, her winning attitude and eager smile moved mountains. Her tremendous career successes are second only to her family ones. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Jim Macfarlane, loving children, daughter Darlene (John) Morrissey, Fall River Nova Scotia; son John Kirby, St. Charles Ill. Granddaughters Taylor Morrissey, Carlie Langille, Sheena and Danielle Kirby; grandsons Hunter and King Morrissey and John Michael Kirby.

....Mom still has the bluejays waiting patiently on the fence for her, looking for the peanuts she would give them. Rest. We'll feed them for you mom.

Cremation has taken place. In memory of Carrie and in support of Darlene, John, Jim and the grandchildren, we invite you to attend a memorial service held at 2 PM Thursday, August 4. Atlantic funeral home Chapel, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Reverend David Turner officiating.
