<div itemprop="description">Hendsbee, Winston Theodore age 74 of Dartmouth passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014. Born in Half Island Cove, Guysborough County, he was the son of the late Ansel and Margaret (Ehler) Hendsbee. Winston&rsquo;s teaching career of 35 years commenced in Half Island Cove in a two room school and concluded in Ash Lee Jefferson School, Fall River, where he was principal. He was employed by the Halifax County School Board first as a classroom teacher and then as Principal. Winston graduated from Nova Scotia Normal College in 1958. He obtained his Master&rsquo;s Degree in Education in 1978 from Dalhousie University. A love of education and children were consistent with his teaching ideals. He was engaged in many activities throughout his life time including Big Brothers, Chaplaincy at Metro Hospitals, Keswick Association, Billy Graham Crusades, the Liberal Party and Adult Sunday School teaching. Winston had many passions including photography, cooking, music, bridge, walking, reading, crossword puzzles, travelling, but nothing surpassed his love of genealogy. He researched extensively The Hendsbee Family Tree. He made numerous calls throughout North America to any Hendsbee listed in the directory and visits to cemeteries for information which resulted in the publication &ldquo;The Hendsbee Family Tree&rdquo;. All his research was done without the aid of computers. Many happy hours were spent at the cottage with family and friends in Marshville, Pictou County. Winston is survived by his wife, Minnie (MacNabb); daughter, Cheryl Hendsbee (Rob), Dartmouth; sisters, Claire (Gene) Drennan, Dartmouth, Wanda (David) Dwyer, River John; brother in law, John (Linda) MacNabb, Burlington Ontario; mother in law, Pearl MacNabb, Pictou and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Wayne and Paul. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm Monday, December 15 at Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Funeral Service will be held 12 noon Tuesday, December 16 at Bedford Baptist Church, 158 Rocky Lake Drive, Bedford, Rev. Dr. Ida Whitehouse and Rev. Robert Ohsberg officiating. Reception to follow in church hall. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main Street, Dartmouth. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Society of Nova Scotia or the Bedford Baptist Church. Special thanks to the staff at Glasgow Hall, Parkland Estates for their care and compassion in the past year and also to Dr. Greg Roy for his care over the years.
