GRANT (Fraser) Velda-72, went home to be with the Lord Thursday March 27th, 2014 in the QEII Hospital. Born July 26th, 1941 in North Preston, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Emma (Smith) Fraser. She is survived by husband Seymour Grant Sr.; sons Derrick Fraser of Dartmouth; George (Elizabeth) Spryfield; Seymour Jr., Markeen of North Preston; Juleous, Toronto; daughters Cindy Brown, Dana (Brian) Provo, Denice all of Toronto, Melissa of Halifax. 30 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grand Children. Sisters; Violet (Gary) Johnson, Dartmouth, Viola (Walter) Simmonds, Delores (Pastor Morton) Simmonds, Juanita (Pastor Bruce) Johnson, North Preston; Patricia (Paul)Heath, Halifax; Carrie, Caroline Radics, Toronto. Brothers; James, Toronto; George, North Preston, Stanford, Dartmouth, Godchild Paula Fraser. Predeceased by brothers; Earl, Leonard, Elias. Sisters, Margaret, Dorothy, grandson Andrew Clayton. She was a dedicated member of St. Thomas United Baptist Church, member of the Ladies Auxiliary, BYPU, Youth Choir (Hallelujah Praise) and the Missionary. Annie V. Johnson I.O.D.E. She was employed at the Nova Scotia Hospital, Ship Shape Dry Cleaners in Toronto and Dartmouth, owned her own convince store and restaurant. She was a member of the Preston Area Board of Trade and a founding member of the North Preston Good Neighbour Society. She was also leader of the North Preston Majorettes and the Girl Guides and Brownies. She was the first High School Queen and Queen of North Preston. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4 at 1pm in Saint Thomas United Baptist Church, North Preston. Interment will be in the St. Thomas United Baptist Cemetery.
