<div itemprop="description">Giles, Stanley Edward “Stan” – age 80 of Cole Harbour, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cole Harbour and was a son of the late Harold and Frances (Slade) Giles. He was born and raised on his family farm in Cole Harbour and remained a lifelong resident of Cole Harbour where he married and raised his family. Stan was an avid market gardener who continued right up until his passing. He retired in 2011, after 54 years of service in the oil delivery business, where he made numerous friends and always made time to stop and chat. Stan enjoyed and was often found sitting in his garage talking with friends who stopped by. Stan and Jackie enjoyed dancing, walking the trails of Cole Harbour, travelling with friends and always looked forward to their annual trip to Cape Breton in the fall to the International Celtic Colours Music Festival, where he enjoyed the array of music, especially the Cape Breton Fiddle Music. He was involved with the Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society and also a volunteer with the Cole Harbour Trails Association. Stan had a love for antique tractors, which he owned a few over the years. His favourite was a 1953 Jubilee Ford which was restored by his good friend and neighbour, Winston. Stan was always supportive of all of his grandchildren’s activities, but specifically enjoyed watching hockey and basketball. He also had a special connection with his sisters in law and brothers in-law, and enjoyed many good times with them over the years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Stan is survived by the love of his life whom he was married to for 57 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” (MacDonald); sons, Greg (Suzanne), Porters Lake, Jeff, Cole Harbour; daughter, Elayne (Gaetan), Cole Harbour; sister, Dora Thibeau (John), Red Deer, Alb.; grandchildren, Jason (Merika), Kimberley Josee, Brandon, Andrew; great grandson, Jaxson Stanley; Christine Landry (mother of Jason and Kimberley); sisters in law, brothers in law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Arlie Allan and brother, Victor. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9pm, Friday, October 28 with a Celebration of Life, 10am, Saturday, October 29 with a reception to follow all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. A private family interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or Canadian Cancer Society.
