<div itemprop="description">Turner, Shirley Mae &ndash; age 84 of Westphal passed away peacefully Friday, July 10, 2015 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Westphal she was the daughter of the late George and Gladys (Kuhn) Turner. In her early years, Shirley attended school in Westphal, and completed her education with a business certificate in 1950 from St. Peter&rsquo;s School in Dartmouth. Shirley, along with her family, ran the family business of Turner&rsquo;s Store in Westphal that served the surrounding communities until its closure in 1991. Shirley also shared a love for harness racing and attended many harness racing events. Shirley was a skilled horticulturalist and was happiest in her gardens. She belonged to many horticultural groups over the past few decades. Shirley competed in many shows and was awarded greatly for her gardening skills for which she was very proud of. She was a lifetime member of Woodlawn United Church. In her later years, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great nieces and nephews. Shirley will be greatly missed by brothers, Ronald (Joan), Westphal, Merlin (Carol), Truro; nieces, Darla Turner (Kim Fader), Dartmouth, Beth MacKinnon (Scott), Mineville, Georgette Chandler (Jim Perry), Truro; nephews, Darren Turner (Marie France Raymond), Quebec, Derek Turner (Tammy), Porters Lake; great nieces and great nephews, Kerri-Leigh Ross, Dartmouth, Dylan Johnson, Halifax, Brooke Chandler, Truro, Jake and Molly MacKinnon, Mineville, Karly and Cole Turner, Porters Lake. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her nephew, David Michael Turner. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm Monday, July 13 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. A funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, July 14 in Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Road, Dartmouth with a reception to follow in church hall. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
