Friars (Clayton), Shirley Anne – age 74 of Truro
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife on October 18, 2015 at Vimy Court Long Term Care.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 56 years, Russell “Buck” and children, Bryan (Lori), Tanya Abraham, Scott (Denise) and Blake (Brenda).
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Blair (Kyla), Courtney, Emily (Grayson), Mitchell and Chloe; and her great-grand-daughters Annabelle and Maria. Also left to mourn are her brother Charles Clayton, and sisters, Winnie James and Susan Burke (Paul).
Shirley was predeceased by her parents Charles and Marion Clayton, brother, Robert and sister, Helen Kelly.
Shirley was born and raised in Saint John, N.B. She moved, with her husband and children, to Dartmouth, N.S. in 1968. There they continued to grow their family. Shirley stayed at home to raise their children and be a supportive and loving wife.
In the late 1970's they began enjoying their summers at Brule Beach, where they met and maintained many wonderful friends and made many happy memories.
In 1996 Shirley and Buck moved from Dartmouth to the Truro area so they could be closer to their summer retreat in Brule as they approached their retirement years. Shirley was happiest in Brule with her family and friends, enjoying the beach and sitting around the campfire. You would always see her with her crossword puzzle book and glass of ginger ale.
Our sincerest gratitude is extended towards the Vimy Angels, who were by her side endlessly during her difficult journey, providing compassion and excellent care to Shirley and our family. A special thank you is extended to Lisa Owen, who assisted Shirley in her final spiritual journey. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 1pm Friday, October 23 in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street Dartmouth, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
