<div itemprop="description">It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Miles, age 77, of Dartmouth, at the Dartmouth General Hospital on May 28, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Edwin and Hazel (Oxner) Smith. Beloved wife of Fred, loving mother and mother-in-law to Jamie (Gina), Randy (Barb), Scott (Cheryl), and Todd (Sarah). Survived by sister, Violet (late Allen), and brother, Karl (late Heather); brothers-in-law Matt (Ferne), Larry (Maxine), John (Marilyn), sisters-in-law Verena and Barb. Devoted grandmother to her cherished angels, Mitchell, Greg, Alexa, Hannah, Jenna, Kayleigh, Ryan, Lauren, Delia and Leighton. Also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. Predeceased by sisters, Gladys (late Harold “Haddie”), and Lucille; brothers, Gordon “Buddy” (late Donnie), Gerald (Verena), Clyde, Kenny (late Louise), Eric (Barb). Shirley was a lifetime member of St. George’s Anglican Church and gave selflessly of her time to the church and several other organizations. She was a long-time employee of Sears until her retirement. She was an avid knitter who knit thousands of baby hats and blankets. Shirley enjoyed travelling with her extended “snowbird” family. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1 at the Atlantic Funeral Home - Dartmouth, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral will be held Thursday, June 2 at St. George’s Anglican Church, Halifax, at 11 am, Rev. Christopher Snook officiating, with reception to follow.
