<div itemprop="description">Age 79 of North Preston passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Dartmouth General Hospital on September 18 2016. <br> <br>Born in Dartmouth, June 20 1937 he was a son of the late Charlie and Ethel May Dixon. <br> <br>Samuel was raised by his maternal grandparents, the Late James and Margareta (Downey) Willis and was the biological son of the Late Lawrence Simmonds. <br> <br>He was a member of St. Thomas Baptist Church. A uniquely kind, charming, strong, enterprising and hardworking man, Samuel lived for his family. He loved hard and provided for his children and grandchildren unselfishly. He loved his children and aided in the raising of his many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His home was home. Owner of a productive farm, Samuel also worked as a mason at the Department of National Defense before retiring. He worked on various jobs in his early years. One of his most favored jobs was with Graham Gaitus Construction. Samuel was committed to running his grandfather’s farm, and was special to his extended family. He was a member of the BYPU choir where he sang and played the guitar. <br> <br>He is survived by his wife, Viola; sons, Keith (Vernelda) Glen, Lewis, Ross, Meyer, Martin, Marven, Patch, Kirby, Jerome, Randy, Ashley, Conrad (Kathy), and Pastor Terry (Rev. Linda); daughters, Evangeline, Tammie, Jeannie, Glenda (Fitzgerald), Gail (Sherman), Shawna, Peggy, Samantha (Wayne), Waniek, Shantelle, Melissa, Barbara, Angelique, Marlene; adopted daughter, Sabrina; brothers, Jimmy, Don, Marven (Joan), Bobby (Valerie) Sheridan, Robert (Erin), Ray (Dina) Ivan (Muriel), Leander (Ena), Larry, Farrell (Shantel), Maurice; sisters, Carol, Julie, Dalphny, Rose (Johnny), Ethel (John), Myra, Stephanie (Dwight), Michelle, Gwendolyn, Noreen; Godson, Lincoln; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. <br> <br>Samuel was predeceased by daughter, Lena; son, Samuel Jr.; brothers, Sydney Sr., Perry, Charles, Austin, Harry, Avery, James Jr., Nathaniel Sr.; sisters, Janet, Layola, Gertrude, Theresa and Kathleen. <br> <br>A visitation will take place on Friday, September 23 2016 from 2-4 pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. A Funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday, September 24 2016 at St. Thomas Baptist Church, Pastor Wallace Smith officiating. Interment to follow in the Downey Road Cemetery. <br> <br>Donations may be made to the St. Thomas Baptist Church. <br> <br>Special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital, “We Care”, and Northwood Manor.</div>
