OBITUARY Raymond L Salter
Raymond L Salter, 84
of Porters Lake, was born January 7th, 1930 in Diligent River, Cumberland County. The son of the late Alexander and Mae (Porter) Salter, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29th, 2014, with his loving family by his side.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter Elizabeth Anne Salter. Also brothers Robert, Gordon and Ralph. Also sister Augusta (Peter) Douglass. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Bonnie, and 4 children: Michael (Bonnie), Gregory (Nichola), Kenneth (Donna) and daughter Anne Marie (Peter) Giberson; 7 granddaughters, Laura (Justin) Wheeler, Adonica, Alanna, Meaghan, Jillian, Shannon, Nylah and great grandson Zachary Wheeler. Also brother Curtis (Ottawa), sisters Dorothy Weatherbee, Gloria (Ev) Himelman, Marie (Arthur) Colpitts, Flora (Jack) Whebby and Thelma (Bob) Venus.
In his early career years he first sailed with his father on the cable ship MVS 'John W. McKay' and continued sailing with CNAV vessels as well as the Imperial Oil Tankers. He later worked with the Public Service sector of the HMC Dockyard, Halifax, and with the NAD Dartmouth and retired after 25 years of continued service. A country boy at heart, Raymond liked the simple things in life and loved to play the guitar and sing C&W music and loved horses, children and family life. He was an avid 'tinkerer', great friend and father who always helped his children and gave all of them the gifts of music and kindness.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. A Celebration of Life Memorial service and Reception will be held there in the Chapel on Friday, October 3rd at 1pm. Reverend Kyle Wagner officiating. Internment at a later date at St. John's Anglican Cemetery, Diligent River.
Donations in his memory can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. The family wish to express deep gratitude and thanks to all the nurses and staff of The Admiral Long Term Care Home, Dartmouth, NS, who endeavoured to keep him smiling and ever content.
