MURPHY, Nancy Louise, age 65, of Dartmouth.
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Nancy Louise Murphy on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Victoria General Hospital, QEII.
Born in Halifax she was a daughter of Kathleen (Egan) and Gerald Murphy, Nancy will always be remembered as 'The Weight Watchers Lady!'
As a stay at home mother to her young daughters in the late 1970's, early 1980's, Nancy began her life long career with Weight Watchers in 1984 as both a Leader and Receptionist. Her vibrant, outgoing, positive personality was a natural fit for these roles and she quickly transitioned into the position of General Manager for Atlantic Canada under the Ludwick family franchise. In this role, Nancy discovered her passion for a healthy lifestyle- and doing so with a smile! In 2007, she accepted a National Director role with Weight Watchers International and remained in this position until her retirement in March 2015. Weight Watchers was Nancy's platform to share her knowledge, inspire others and develop herself into a business woman with a reputation second to none.
Nancy's greatest accomplishment and biggest passion was always her immediate and chosen family. She welcomed everyone with open arms, a smile and a place at the table for her weekly Sunday dinners. Nancy will forever be remembered for her world famous lasagna, chocolate cake and numerous Weight Watchers recipes shared around a table of love, family, laughter, old memories and a few healthy debates.
Nancy is survived by her mother Kathleen “Kay” Murphy; husband Stephen “Steve” Murphy; daughters Jennifer and Jillian, son-in-laws John and Craig, brother Gregory (Pat) Murphy, sisters Patricia Stewart and Cathy (Bobby) Walker, step children Craig and Kelly Murphy, best friend Debbie (Victor) Kielbratoswki and the greatest loves of her life - her three grandchildren - Chase Michael, Hayden David and Chloe Rae.
She was predeceased by her father Gerald Murphy; sister-in-law Patricia Murphy; brother-in-law Harold Stewart; childhood friend Patricia Coolen and numerous aunts and uncles.
Nancy had a personality that lit up every room she was in and made everyone feel like they were family. She was a second mother to many and a class act to the core. Nancy would, without hesitation, give the shirt off her back to her friends and family, never once second guessing her decision to do so.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth . Service will take place on Thursday, September 17th at 10am in the funeral home chapel, Rev James Haughn officiating, with a reception to follow. Family only intermittent will follow the reception.
We would like to offer our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Debbie Kielbratowski, Patty and Joe Arseneau and Leesa Goode for all of their support and help over the last few months. Many thanks to both the Cancer Unit and Palliative Care Doctors and Nurses at the Victoria General Hospital for their care and assistance during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Craig's Cause (www.craigscause.ca)
Online condolences may be made by visiting the Dartmouth Chapel at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
