<div itemprop="description"> <p> Norma 'Joy' Demings </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Norma 'Joy' Demings. She passed peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Collingwood Corner to Allison Ripley and Elma Broughton (Brown). Survived by hubby, long loving friend and high school sweetheart, Gerald Douglas Demings; daughter, Linda Demings, Dartmouth; son, Dennis (Vanna) Demings, Dartmouth; brother, Gary (Carol, d.) Ripley, Balmertown, Ont.; Kevin (Darlene) Ripley, Dartmouth; granddaughter, Brianna Demings, Dartmouth; niece, Paige Ripley, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Wayne (Sue) Ripley (Rehoboth, Mass.). She graduated from Oxford Regional High School and worked at the Path Lab, in Halifax. In 1994 she retired after 31 years when she became an avid golfer and curler. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Red Hatters Society. She volunteered with United Way of Halifax, Margaret&rsquo;s House and Feed Others Of Dartmouth. A long-time member of Port Wallis United Church, she was very active in all aspects including the dinner theatre. She will be best known for her amazing spirit, love of life, competitiveness, leadership qualities and great humour. Our family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers of the VON, the VG Site and Dartmouth General Hospital. Visitation will be held in Port Wallis United Church, Dartmouth, on Monday, March 19, 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, March 20, 2-4 p.m. Funeral service to be held in Port Wallis United Church on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. Beta Sigma Phi memorial will be held prior to visitation on Monday, at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Port Wallis United Church. </p> </div>
