<div itemprop="description">Sparks, Mary Elizabeth &ndash; 91 of Lake Loon, Nova Scotia, passed away in Dartmouth General Hospital on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Born in Lake Loon on February 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Blanche (Downey) Sparks. Mary was a member of the Cherry Brook United Baptist Church for over 70 years, where she had been a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, a chairperson of both the Social Committee and the Women&rsquo;s Missionary Social Committee; member of the Women&rsquo;s Missionary Society; member of the Executive Committee; and a member of the Senior, Mass, and Gospel Fellowship choirs. Mary was a founding member/past president of the Cherry Brook/Lake Loon Seniors&rsquo; Group. She was also a past president/past member of the Red Cross Society and past member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Mary was employed with the Golf Club of Dartmouth for 31 years, and worked in government buildings in Halifax for 31 years. For 32 years she was a domestic worker, and for 52 years she sold her crafts and baked goods at the Halifax and Dartmouth Farmers&rsquo; Markets. Her hobbies included knitting, baking, crocheting, basket weaving, wreath making and playing dominoes. Mary loved to welcome and feed family and friends. All knew her door was never locked, and those who visited had to eat a little something and have a cup of tea. She was a strong, feisty woman who spoke her mind. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mary is survived by her children - Arnold, Patricia, David, Lorna, Milton (Cheryl), Diana, Marlin, Sharmaine, Nolan (Franka), Glenn, Tony (Corina), Terrence (Carol Anne) and Eugene; thirty-six grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; two godchildren, Larry Sparks and Veronica Hagans; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, William Albert Sparks; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; Sisters &ndash; Edna Colley, Bridget Kane, Leota Sparks, Helen Sparks, Kathleen Riley, Laura Cain and Rosella Sparks; Brothers &ndash; Donald, William, Frederick, Stanley, Joseph, John and James. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Cherry Brook United Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12 from 7-9 pm with the WMS and Ladies Auxillary service beginning at 7pm.The funeral service will take place at 1 pm on Thursday, November 13, 2014, Reverend Dr. Lionel Moriah officiating. Burial in The Cherry Brook United Baptist Church Cemetery. Repast in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cherry Brook United Baptist Church.
