<div itemprop="description"><br />McKENNA, Lawrence Joseph - 76 (CD, BA) <br /> <br />After a lengthy illness, Lawrence (Larry) passed away in the presence of family at his residence at Oakwood Terrace on October 5th, 2014. Son of John Joseph McKenna and Pauline Olga (Lebedoff), Larry was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 29th, 1938. He served as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RC 97) and received the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) for his years of service and good conduct. He also graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Commerce. Larry worked in administration for many years with The Red Cross and later Scotia Nursing Homes, before serving with the Corps of Commissionaires. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Somme Branch. Larry enjoyed aircraft, classical music, was an avid sports fan, and was always appreciated for his vast knowledge of current events. Larry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice (Nolan) McKenna; sons Sean (Michelle) of Dartmouth and Cory (Dawn) of London, Ontario; sister Cynthia Davidson of Sechelt, B.C.; grandchildren: Zakkary, Joshua, Isabella, Caleb, and Cameron; and many nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents; his brother-in-law Leith; and two grandchildren, Canaan and Judah. Visitation will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 10th with accompanying service provided by the Royal Canadian Legion. A funeral mass will be held 10 am on Saturday, October 11th at St. Thomas More Parish, 15 Caledonia Road,Dartmouth, Father Jim Richards officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only.
