<div itemprop="description">The family of Janice Deborah Gaetz (Smiley) is deeply saddened by her passing on Friday July 22, 2016 at the age of 57. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of Muriel Smiley (Beaver) and the late Douglas Smiley. Janice had a successful career in hairdressing and was adored by her many clients. Her love of life and all who she came in contact with inspired her to write poems that made you both cry and laugh. Her way with words gave you courage and made you proud to be a part of her world. Growing up in a lighthouse began an everlasting love of the ocean, which would eventually lead to her love of boating. You could often hear her singing while preparing to entertain her loved friends and relatives. To many she was referred to as the “baby whisperer” as she loved rocking and singing Hush Little Baby to our little ones until they fell asleep, never wanting to put them down. When she wasn’t being everyone’s mom, which brought her great joy, she was spoiling her puppies, Willie and Waylon. Her love of travel captured many wonderful friends from all over. She captivated you with her infectious smile and kept you laughing with her charming wit. Her kind nature wrapped you in the warmest of hugs giving you a sense of belonging. She will be sorrowfully missed and she will always and forever be remembered for her beautiful heart, sense of humor, unselfishness, strength, mischievous nature, her incredible ability of making you feel special and above all, her tremendous love and support that she gave freely and sincerely. You never left Janice without the warmest of hugs that stayed with you long after you parted ways. Janice is survived by her best friend and the love of her life, husband, Floyd Gaetz, her beloved son, Jesse, treasured daughter, Megan, and cherished granddaughter, Audrey Rose. She is also survived by her much loved family, and extended family, sisters Virginia Hubley (Keith), Ethel Marshall, Teresa, Juanita Wolfe (Lloyd), brothers Ralph (Jeanette), Merle (Deborah), Guy, Mark , Blair (Kandi), Scott (Kim), father in-law Ross Gaetz, brother in-laws, Graham (Maxine), Stephen (Darlene), Clifford and many nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was predeceased by brother Clarence (Linda), sisters, Eunice Gaskell (Larry), Brenda, and sister in-law Yvonne. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 Thursday, July 28th, 2016 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, July 29th, at 1pm, in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Cory Somers officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens following service. Family flowers only. In honor of her giving nature we ask that donations be made to Feed Nova Scotia in lieu of flowers.</div>
