Jane Noel Warman
September 12, 1926 - September 17, 2015
Warman, Jane Noel – age 89 years of Dartmouth.
It is with profound sorrow, the family of Jane Noel (Timmings) Warman announce her sudden passing on Thursday, September 17, 2015. A lady of deep, abiding faith, Jane was active in the community, her church and with her family. She will be deeply missed by all.
Born on September 12, 1926 in Philadelphia, Jane met Herb Warman towards the end of WWII, married him in Philadelphia in December 1947 and promptly moved to the wilds of Nova Scotia. They arrived in December 1947 during the worst snowstorm that the east coast had endured at that time. Jane told some hilarious stories about those early days of living in Dartmouth: no bridge, cows with horns walking on the streets and absolutely not a subway in sight!
Her homesickness was eased when Jane found Stairs Memorial United Church of which she was a faithful member for over 64 years. Jane was a life member of the UCW (Mary Bruce unit) which she cherished. She made many lifelong friends at Stairs as well as the other churches and places the family lived during Herb’s naval career.
Jane was an avid bridge player even though she would complain bitterly at receiving “Terrible” hands with no points. She so enjoyed the “bridge ladies” especially as Herb’s health declined over the last 10 years. Jane and Herb were also members of the Costume Society of Nova Scotia and really enjoyed their time with that organization.
Jane had the soul of an artist: could arrange weeds to look fabulous, enjoyed playing in the garden flowers, driving very fast, taught the kids, grandkids and great grandkids how to play Chinese Checkers to win; taught us all how to behave properly (Emily Post had nothing on her!) and encouraged each of us to be successful at whatever we undertook to do.
Blessed with a wicked sense of humour, Jane enjoyed laughing and could be counted on to dance the night away in her younger years. She loved jewellery, snazzy shoes and had her hair done every Friday without fail!
Best of all, Janes was a gifted listener and an excellent friend. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Jane was the last surviving member of her Philadelphia family.
Jane was a remarkable person, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She was the last of a special generation not to be seen again. Jane, our mom, will be lovingly remembered and her legacy never forgotten.
Left with fond and loving memories are her daughters Wendy Sullivan of Dartmouth and Sandra Seary McKinstry (Hal) of Toronto; sons Colin Warman of Dartmouth and Ian Warman of Chicago; 2 grandchildren Amy Harris (Scott) of Dartmouth and Nicholas Warman of Colorado; 2 great grandchildren Olivia and Cameron Harris of Dartmouth.
Predeceased by her spouse Herb Warman, son-in-law Tim Sullivan and all her Philadelphia family.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11 am from Stairs Memorial United Church with Rev. Sarah Raeburn officiating, assisted by Rev. Vincent Ihasz. Interment to take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Stairs Memorial UC – Organ Fund or Christian Education; Red Cross of Canada (International Relief) would be greatly appreciated.
