It is with great sadness we announce that Henry Doell, age 84, of Saskatoon, went to join his beloved wife, Dina, on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Henry resided in Halifax, NS, for the past 6 months where, after a continuing decline in health, he passed away at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
Henry was born on October 14, 1932, on a farm near Warman, SK, to Johan and Katerina Doell; he was the 6th of 13 children. Henry spent his entire life working in the construction industry and was widely respected and revered by all. When either a contractor or an architect wanted something done right, they called on Henry. He was known for being tough, but when you listened to Henry, you got the job done right the first time.
If you spent time with Henry, you likely heard him say, “Family is the most important thing to me!” He married the love of his life, Delina (Dina) Gauthier, on May 20, 1957. They were most proud of their children and grandchildren, and always looked for opportunities to be with their families. In his retirement, Henry, enjoyed weekly breakfasts with his siblings, sharing memories and family stories.
His cottage at Big Shell Lake was his spot of Heaven on earth. Henry spent countless hours there enjoying family and close lifelong friends. He loved "flogging" (golfing) and was always up at the crack of dawn making sure all of the “Lakers” made their tee times. Henry was proud to be a founding member and investor of the Moon Lake Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon. His love of golf was passed on to his son and grandson. Their time spent golfing together created special memories for all three.
Henry is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Dave) Duchscher of Saskatoon, his son, Brad (Eva) of Halifax, and his daughter, Candace (Jim) Cummins of Hickory, NC. He adored his grandchildren, Christine (Brent), Gillian (Andrew), Mitchell, Puddin’ (Taylor) and Carter. Once settled in Halifax, his great grand-child, Harrison, perked him up with every visit. Henry is also survived by his siblings, Martha (Bill) Gibb, Olga (Henry) Friesen, Peter (Celia), Abram, Annie Janzen, Catherine (David) Wootton, Ruby Dyck and sister-in-laws, Elsa and Anna.
Henry was predeceased by his wife, Dina, who was taken by cancer in 1994. He was also predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Rueben, John, and Jacob, his sisters, Helen and Mary (Unrah).

Henry’s celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 114 Kingsmere Pl., Saskatoon, SK.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honouring Henry’s memory by donating to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan at 301- 2250-12th Ave, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1, 1-800-263-3367 or the Canadian Cancer Society for colorectal research, 101-440-2nd Ave N, Saskatoon, S7K 2C3, 306-244-4389.
