Sparks, Helen Geraldine –
87, of Lake Loon, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday October 15, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Born in Lake Loon on April 11, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John and Blanche (Downey) Sparks. Helen was a member of the Cherry Brook United Baptist Church for over 65 years. She was one of the founding members/past President of the Women’s Missionary Society, and member/past President of the Ladies Auxiliary and past member of the Senior Choir. She was also a founding member of the Lake Loon/Cherry Brook seniors group.
Helen was a teacher/bookkeeper at the Lake Loon School and a teachers Aid at Sir Robert Bordon Jr. High School. She also worked as a daycare teacher and literacy instructor through the P.A.L.S. program. She loved baseball, playing dominoes, baking, gardening and knitting. Helen loved entertaining friends, hosting large family gatherings and travelling to visit her family.
Helen is survived by her loving husband Spencer Sparks of 62 years; and her children Corrine, Stewart, Janet, Gail, Derrick, Dennis, Carla, Tim and Colleen. Her sisters Mary (Albert) Sparks of Lake Loon and Laura Cain. 7 grandchildren: Tara, Andre, Justin, Carlo, Geralle, Logan and Lamaya and 7 great grandchildren. 4 Godchildren Betty Drummond, Glenda Valliers, Rejane Cormier-Anderson and Sarah Cain.
She was predeceased by her loving grandson Ty Spencer Sparks; sisters Edna Colley, Bridget Kane, Leota Sparks, Kathleen Riley and Rosella Sparks; brothers William, James, Frederick, Stanley, Joseph, John and Donald.

Visitation will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home – Dartmouth Chapel on Friday October 17th, from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Cherry Brook United Baptist Church on Saturday October 18th at 2 pm, Rev. Wayne Desmond officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
