<div itemprop="description">Helen “Beverley” Joan (Smith) Dignan-age 88 <br>With sadness, the family of Helen “Beverley” Joan (Smith) Dignan announces her passing on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Oakwood Terrace in Dartmouth. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, Beverley was the youngest daughter of the late Harold and Muriel (Tanton) Smith. <br>She was educated at West Kent School and Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown. After moving to Dartmouth in July 1960, she became an active member of the Mary Bruce Unit, UCW, of Stairs Memorial United Church. She thoroughly enjoyed all family gatherings such as birthdays and all holidays. For many years, she and her late husband, Weldon, were involved in square and round dancing as well as camping every summer with the Down East Coasters camping club. For a number of years they spent their winters in New Port Richey, Florida. <br>She is survived by daughter Cherry (Paul) Gauthier and sons Ken (Sandy), all of Dartmouth and Randy, Ottawa. In addition, she is survived by daughter-in-law Anne Henry of Ajax, Ont. Surviving also are her grandchildren, Taylor (Elizabete) Dignan and their daughters Daniela and Soraia, Meredith (George) Tasiopoulos and their son Elias, Cameron (Whitney McEvoy), all of Dartmouth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. <br>Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her son David Henry, brother Ralph (Florence) Smith, sisters Carol (Dewar) MacNeill and Hazel (Charlie) Stone. <br>The family can’t thank the staff of Unit B at Oakwood enough for all the loving care that has been given to Beverley over the last five years. They have always gone over and above for her and the family is ever so appreciative of them all. <br> A memorial service will be held at Stairs Memorial United Church, 44 Hester Street, Dartmouth on Friday June 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment to follow at 2 p.m. in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main Street, Dartmouth. Rev. Sarah Raeburn will be presiding. <br>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Oakwood Recreational Department or Stairs Memorial United Church.
