Stewart, Harvey Donald George “Harv”- age 60 of Dartmouth, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, April 26th, 2016. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Harv was the son of the late Kenneth Fisher Stewart and Gladys (Routliffe) Stewart and step-father Jim Bogert. He is also predeceased by his former spouse Lisa MacDonald.
Harv had an illustrious career in radio for over three decades that took him from Ontario to Alberta and finally to Nova Scotia, his home for the last 26 years. Sports broadcasting was his dream job and when he arrived at Q104 as Sports Director in 1990 he quickly became a popular celebrity.
He was a one of a kind sports enthusiast and huge fan of the New York Giants, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Red Wings and the BC Lions. He spent many hours cheering them on from his “Manland” often with a Keith’s in hand.
Harv was known for his sport knowledge and passion in covering events. Within a few years, he gained greater popularity among listeners and viewers while hosting “Harv’s Sportsland” that aired for 20 years on Eastlink TV.
He loved most sports except curling and enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and golf. Harv was not a stellar jock but he was a good sport and always enjoyed a good laugh even if it was at his expense, including the time he parachuted from a plane and broke his ankle upon landing.
Harv took many trips to concerts and sports events throughout Canada and the U.S. and loved relaxing at a special place in Florida where he vacationed for many years.
An outstanding broadcaster with a mind for sports trivia, he enjoyed life to the fullest and was always optimistic about the future. He will be missed by many dear friends and colleagues.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, May 13th at 2pm in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main St., Dartmouth.
A Celebration of Harv’s Life is planned for Saturday, May 14th from 1-3pm at The Tower in the Homburg Centre, St. Mary’s University, 920 Tower Rd, Halifax.
In Harv’s honour, please wear a sports jersey to his celebration. No ties please.
Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, Nova Scotia SPCA or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Companion Animal Hospital for taking such good care of Jersey in Harv’s time of need.
Online condolences may be made by visiting the Dartmouth Chapel at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
