Gladys Mae Thompson
February 22, 1925 - October 20, 2013
THOMPSON Gladys May (Nee Willis), age 88. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Gladys May Thompson of North Preston as she passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday October 20, 2013.
Born on February 22, 1925 Gladys was a regular member of Revival Tabernacle Church in Halifax. She was a long time choir member, taking her place in the tenor section (truly a mother in Israel). She was a great prayer warrior.
Gladys enjoyed making quilts, wreath, and enjoyed cooking many delicious meals, desserts, and preserves. Muma worked for Sussex Ginger Ale, Jacobson’s Retail and Webber’s Department Store, she worked to the age of 79, as a domestic housekeeper/care-giver. She raised many of her employee’s children, while raising 17 of her own.
Mum is survived by: Merlyn (Sheena), Patricia Big Kawhana (Albert), Judson, (Rita), John, (Mona), Gary, (Mary), Rev. Linda, (Pastor Terry), Murray, (Gladys), Blair, Mary, Sandra, (Robert), Norma, (Patrick), Carol, (Oaks), Floyd, Phyllis, (Allen), and Jason. Daughter June Provo, 54 Grandchildren, 200 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, God-children, Lillian Williams, Vivian Willis, Evangeline Williams, Judy David, Darrell Smith, Marion Bundy and Matilda Downey. Special friends; Lovella Smith, Isabell Cruickshank, Gwen Flood, Mrs. Colter Smith, Winfred Willis
Predeceased by: her husband William Alexander Sr.; son William Alexander Jr.; and daughter Etta May; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; also predeceased by her brothers and spouses; James and Pauline Willis, William Jr. and Beatrice Willis.
Family visitation will be Friday October 25th, 2013 from 2-4pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Public viewing is 7-9pm in the funeral home chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday October 26th, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the United Pentecostal Church, 293 Main Street Dartmouth, officiated by Pastor Terry and Rev. Linda Smith. Interment will be at East Preston Cemetery, East Preston. Repast will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home. Donations can be made to Revival Tabernacle Choir.
We would like to say a special thank you to Lenore Fraser for stepping in and giving us her support when we needed it most, we so appreciate everything you have done in helping us care for our Mother. Also Thank you to Doctor Joanna Zed GP, and the Physician’s and all Palliative Care staff of 7A, VON and Home Care, your passionate service for our mum was greatly appreciated by the Thompson Family.
