Gerald Arthur DeWolfe, 93
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gerald Arthur DeWolfe on December 9, 2014 at the Camp Hill Veterans Hospital in Halifax. Born in Halifax, Feb 28, 1921, Gerald was the son of the late Joseph Arthur and Margaret (Martell) DeWolfe. He grew up in Dartmouth and joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the outbreak of World War II. He served on a number of Canadian and British corvettes and frigates in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. He had a lifelong interest in geography and saw much of the world during these tumultuous war years. After his service in the war, he went to work with his father and brother, Vincent, at the Imperial Oil Refinery in Dartmouth where he worked for 41.5 years. Gerry married Evelyn Romo in 1948 and they raised their family in Dartmouth. Gerry and Evelyn spent many years travelling to Florida to spend time with the friends they made during those years at ESSO. They were part of a very sociable crowd of friends who often gathered for card games and dancing. After living in the same house for 56 years, they moved to Parklands at the Lakes in 2008. He is survived by children, Sharon (Roy) Parker, Barry (Gaye), Guy (Janice), Nancy (Peter) Staples; 10 grandchildren who he knew so well and to whom he passed on much kindness and wisdom: Jill (Jason) Hawkes; Jennifer (Paul Dandurand) Parker; Amy (Peter) Dicks; Joanne (Greg Boudreau) Parker; Melissa (Drew) Mosher; David (Jessica Arbour) Staples; Matthew (Hilja) DeWolfe; Patricia (Cory Stuart) Staples, Rosemary (Kevin Bayers) Staples, Gerald (Sophie Rousselle) Staples; eight great grandchildren; two brothers Vincent and Nelson. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn in 2010, his sister Doris, and brothers Laurie, Leo and Murray. Cremation has already taken place. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 13 at 10 AM at Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth.
