Francis William Osborne
December 17, 1940 - September 8, 2013
Osborne, Frances William Arnold (Frank) (Ozzie), 72, Dartmouth, NS
We are saddened to inform family and friends that our beloved husband and father passed away on September 8, 2013, after a recent illness. He was surrounded by his family as he went peacefully to heaven.
Frank was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces - Navy - for 33 years and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was also involved for many years with HMCS Scotian, training new recruits. He traveled all over the world during his time in the navy - from Russia to the NWT.
He was very devoted to minor hockey in Nova Scotia throughout his years. He coached and advised teams, and served on boards of directors at the municipal, provincial and national levels. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Novice hockey program in Nova Scotia, and was one of the original founding members of the SEDMHA international hockey tournament over 30 years ago. He also loved to watch his beloved Habs on TV, during hockey season.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed crossword puzzles daily, reading the newspapers/ books avidly, and watching out the window at the activity on the street. He loved animals and adored his three grandchildren. He was an avid collector and enjoyed yard sales and flea markets. He enjoyed old country/western music, particularly Hank Williams, Sr., and bluegrass music. He was a resource for CBC radio - often - when they were searching for a song clip or a title. He also loved to garden and took great pride in his property. Most of all, he loved his wife and family.
Frank is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen Osborne (nee Rudolph), Dartmouth; daughter, Kelly (David Barteaux), Dartmouth; son, Brian (Belinda), Dartmouth; father, Mr. G.F.
