Etta May Thompson
January 23, 1952 - March 29, 2013
Etta May Thompson age 61 of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia passed away suddenly on March 29, 2013 at the Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Gladys and the late William Alexander Thompson.
Etta was a faithful member of the Dartmouth United Pentecostal Church, and a long-time employee at Oakwood Terrace. While her grandchildren were her passion, Etta was a mentor to many youth at various camps and workshops; she was a Sunday school teacher and the long-time choir director, who shared her love of ministry through music with many. Whenever possible she could be found spending time in her garden.
Etta is survived by her mother Gladys Thompson, North Preston. She is also survived by her children: Darryl, André (Kim) Thompson, Sonia (Joshua) Murphy and Martell (Samantha) Thompson, who loved her dearly.
Etta will be missed by her siblings: Merlin, Patricia, Judson, John, Gary, Linda, Murray, Blair, Mary, Sandra, Carol, Floyd, Phyllis, Jason and their spouses.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Devon, Marlee, O’Shea, Branden, Tessa, Justis, Josiah, Megan, and several nieces and nephews.
Etta was predeceased by her brother Alexander, her niece Shervon and her nephew Cameron.
She will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 5 from 2pm to 4pm and 7-9 in the Dartmouth United Pentecostal Church at 293 Main Street. A funeral service will be held Saturday April 6 at 11am in the Dartmouth United Pentecostal Church at 293 Main Street, Pastor James Underwood officiating; burial to follow at the Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. The reception will take place at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, following burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
