<div itemprop="description"> <p> The Late Dougald Angus MacDougall </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Dougald Angus MacDougall passed away July 22 2012 at the QEII Health Center after a brief illness. </p> <p> Born June 10 1923 in Mabou Cape Breton son of Alexander MacDougall and Mary Flora (MacLellan). His first language was Gaelic. He attended school at Broad Cove Banks then moved to Antigonish in 1932 where he attended Morrison School. He joined the RCAF in 1942 and served three and one half years during World War Two with Bomber Command. As rear gunner of U-uncle of the Vancouver&rsquo;s on a bombing run over Stuttgart Germany his Lancaster came under enemy fire and was fatally stricken. Dougald was the only surviving crew member forced to bail out he became a prisoner in Germany until he was liberated at the end of the war. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> After returning to Canada he took courses at St Francis Xavier University became involved with the Credit Union Movement.&nbsp; He spent time as a resource person for The Coady International Institute and assisted in seminars in India and West Africa. He was employed as a field worker for the Nova Scotia Credit Union League; employed with Cuna Mutual Insurance Society (CUMIS Insurance) for 29 years, starting out as field representative and eventually appointed as Regional Manager. He faithfully served the Board of Directors of Harbour City Credit Union/Dartmouth Community Credit Union for 8 years; on the Board of Directors of Credit Union Central of Nova Scotia, League Savings and Mortgage Company and League Data Limited for 6 years; as member of the Executive Committee, Housing Committee and Education Committee of the Board of Directors, Credit Union Central of Nova Scotia. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> He served ten years on the Board of the Dartmouth YM YWCA and was President during the merger with the Halifax YMCA and later served on the Board of Trustees. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> He was recognized in a 2001 Distinguished Co-operative Award as contributing to the betterment of his community by dedicating his time, talent, and energies to The Nova Scotia Co-operative and Credit Union Movement. He also spent time volunteering with numerous organizations, including the Food Bank </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Besides multiple military service medals in 1993, he was the recipient of the Commemorative Medal for the 125 Anniversary of Canada in recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Dougald (Pappa) will be missed by his devoted wife Doreen (Hudson) with whom he recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He is survived by daughters Glenda (Don) Fader, Doreen (Gordon) Horner, Pam (Terrance) O'Callaghan, Dawn Evans (who was like a daughter) sons Sandy (Ann Myketyn), Gerald (Alanagh), Ian (Debbie). Pappa will be forever loved by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his 3 brothers Neil (Killed in action WWII), Charlie, Murdoch, and sister, Mary Falt. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Special thanks to Ernie Poirier who visited him faithfully and kept him up to date about the morning coffee club members. Also sincere thanks to all the staff on 8.1 North at the QEII. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home Visitation will be held Wednesday July 25 from 6-9 pm </p> <p> A deeply spiritual person celebration of life and funeral mass will be conducted by Dougald&rsquo;s nephew, Father Martin MacDougall at 10 a.m. Thursday July 26 2012 at Saint Thomas Moore church Dartmouth interment to follow at St Ninian&rsquo;s Cemetery, Antigonish.
