<div itemprop="description"> <p> <b> NICKERSON, Donald Joseph </b> - It is with deep sadness that we regret to announce the peaceful passing of Donald J. Nickerson, age 75, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Don passed away Tuesday morning, January 31 while being cared for at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Don was born in Halifax on Oct 24, 1936, son of the late Fred B. Nickerson and Mary (Power) Nickerson. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Don will be dearly missed by his wife of 46 years Norma (Nelson) Nickerson, his two sons Barry (Laureen) Nickerson and Glenn Nickerson. His beloved grandchildren Cameron, Taylor, Hayley and Alyson will forever miss their &ldquo;Grampy&rdquo;. He is survived by sisters Rosalie Stoneman, Bernice Hull and brother Greg Nickerson, as well as many nieces, nephews and his walking companion Jake. He was predeceased by brothers John Nickerson, Frederick (Bill) Nickerson and twin brother Douglas Nickerson. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Don operated his business Don&rsquo;s Kart Pit Stop and stayed involved in auto racing which has always been his passion. He was a founding member of the Atlantic Motorsports Karters Association and was involved in karting for over 27 years. He and his family were inducted into the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame during the inaugural year in 2006. He was an original member of the Halifax Cluster Busters car club in the fifties and sixties and continued drag racing with his brother Greg. They had several drag cars which they campaigned with great local success. Don also enjoyed playing pool in the Dooly&rsquo;s Fun League and his latest endeavour coin collecting. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Don began his apprenticeship as a boiler maker at the Halifax Dockyard in the 1950&rsquo;s and in 1967 began with the Nova Scotia Department of Labour as a boiler inspector, from which he retired in 1994. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> The family would like to thank the staff of Dartmouth General Hospital and Dr. Oliver. Special thanks to Father Lloyd O&rsquo;Neill and the St Vincent de Paul parish community. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Visitation will be held Friday 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm at St Vincent de Paul Church, 320&nbsp; Flying Cloud Drive, Dartmouth. A memorial service will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at 11:00 am on Saturday, Feb.4. &nbsp;Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Association or a charity of choice. </p> </div>
