It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Marie Heighton (nee Oakley), 66, of Mineville, on November 3, 2012, at the Halifax Infirmary.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Kenneth and the late Mary Oakley.
Those who knew Diane remember a wonderful, strong, supportive, compassionate and loving woman, who had the ability to laugh until she cried. Her warm personality drew people to her and made anyone she met feel special. One of her favorite pastimes was spending an afternoon in her kitchen, cooking and baking up a storm. She always looked forward to her Friday Lexicon puzzle in the newspaper. In her professional life, she and her husband Bill worked side by side forming and growing their company, Independent Auto Appraisal.
She will be sadly missed by her husband and best friend of 39 years, Bill Heighton; daughters Lesa (Paul Martell) Oakley, L’Ardoise; Angela (Craig) Stiles, Georgetown, Ontario; and Crystal, Mineville. Just three weeks ago, her dream of becoming a grandmother was fulfilled with the birth of her beautiful grandson, Matthew. She is also survived by her sisters Joanne, Agnes, Geraldine, Anne and Theresa; brothers Paul, Cornelius, Joseph, Pat and Walter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Oakley.
Her remains have been cremated. Visitation will be held at the Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, on November 7, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on November 8 at 11 a.m. Private burial will be held at a later date.
Special thanks to Dr. Wojciech Morzycki, Suzanna Belliveau, R.N., the staff of the 6.4 Coronary Care Unit at the Halifax Infirmary, and the many others who formed her team of caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Terry Fox Foundation. Foronline condolences please visit us at:www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
