Derrick "Darren" Simmons
November 21, 1970 - July 21, 2014
SIMMONS, Derrick “Darren”- 43, of North Preston, passed away peacefully at home on July 21st, 2014.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was a son of Harvey Simmons Jr. and the late Alice (Smith) Simmons.
Darren worked in paving and construction. He enjoyed driving and taking road trips. He loved dancing and was always the life of the party. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Darren was a member of St. Thomas United Baptist Church. He was the president of The Metropolitan Boyz to Men Club and mentor to many young people in his community.
He is survived by his wife Dianna; children; Derrick , Darrica “Shay” , Randez, Shonice, Ashia, Shawntay, Kiara, and Chelcie; grandson Jaden; sisters, Lisa, Paulesa; brothers, Stanley (Juanita), Michael (Kathleen), Terrelle (Merwina), mother-in-law, Paulette Dann; father-in-law Raymond Dann and many nieces and nephews. Darren is also survived by his God parents; Theresa Simmonds, Murphy Simmonds and Cola Smith; and nine God-children.
He was predeceased by his brothers; Cleary, Philip; sister-in-law Lori; daughter Brianna.
Visitation will be held on Thursday July 24, 2014 from 7-9pm in St. Thomas United Baptist Church, 35 Simmonds Road, North Preston where the Funeral Service will take place on Friday July 25th at 1pm, Pastor Wallace Smith officiating. Burial in St. Thomas United Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
