ELRICK (Dauphinee), Claire Donkin - age 91

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Claire Elrick announces her passing. She died peacefully and naturally at her home with family by her side on June 26, 2016. She was born in Bridgewater April 21, 1925, the daughter of Daniel Bedford Dauphinee and Mary Edna Wharton.

She moved to Halifax during her school years and went on to attend Miss Murphy's Business College. Upon graduation, she started work at Imperial Oil where she remained for 10 years, enjoying a career as well as many life long friendships not to mention her stellar career playing nets for the ladies hockey team. . She then married and started a family, staying home to raise four children. She was a wonderful mother who always wanted happiness for all. She came into grandmotherhood late in life and saw her first grandchild born at age 70. In spite of a late start she played a major role in their lives and loved them all dearly, looking forward to every game won and test passed. Every day had to begin and end with a recap of everyone's activities. Right up to her last day she wanted to know where everyone was and what they were up to. We will miss her dearly and hope she knows we loved her to pieces. She was active in her church through most of her life and sang at Saint Paul's Church during her younger years as well as worked on the guild at various churches. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed the many people she got to know and help while doing this. She also volunteered at Twin Oaks hospital. Later in life she attended the Adult Day programs offered through Northwood which gave her opportunity to get out to socialize and connect with her community.

She was predeceased by her parents and 3 brothers; Roger Orville Dauphinee, Ernest Hibbert Dauphinee and George Wharton Dauphinee as well as her husband George Bruce Elrick. She is survived by her 3 sons and daughter; Bruce Elrick, Diane Garagan(Barry), David Elrick and Gary Elrick (Sandra) as well as her 5 grandchildren; Thomas Garagan, Bradley Garagan, Emma-Claire Garagan, Christopher Elrick and Callista Elrick.

A special thank you to the staff at Northwood Adult Day Program and to the many Access-a-bus drivers who patiently and caringly got mom back and forth to the program many times.
