Brian David Warshick
March 29, 1953 - July 4, 2015
Warshick, Brian David, age 62, passed away Saturday, July 4th at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Summerside, PEI, Brian was the son of William “Bill” and Ruby (Key) Warshick. While Brian lived in a variety of places ranging from PEI to Europe to Whitehorse, he considered Dartmouth his home and was a fervent supporter of Dartmouth.
Brian attended Prince Andrew High School where he made life- long friends. He continued to Ryerson, studying Radio and Television Arts which would provide the basis for much of his career. Brian started in radio and television in Saint John, NB and then moved to Halifax where his on-air career was followed by many years in Media Sales. One of his proudest accomplishments was representing Dartmouth East for a term on City Council. Brian was also a well-known charity auctioneer who could sell anything to anyone.
Brian loved people. He was a social creature who was happiest surrounded by friends and family. He was known for his intelligence, kind heart, ready smile and generous nature. Brian had a laugh that would fill a room. He was passionate about sports especially if his Red Wings or Blue Bombers were on the big screen. A man of strong opinions, he loved politics. Brian loved to talk; to friends, strangers, his favourite bank tellers and even lost tourists whom he would often take to their destinations. Brian lived life to the fullest, filling his time with more adventures than most can even dream of.
Brian was so proud and supportive of his children, Samantha and Alex. Not a day went by without some contact. They are his greatest achievements. He was always there, cheering them on at soccer and football games, school and work. He was the ultimate dad.
Brian is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cathy Boyd; his daughter Samantha (Chris Steeves); son Alex; his parents Ruby and Bill; sisters Sam McCarty (Mike); Annalea Masiello (Jim); mother-in-law Jean Boyd; sister-in-law Kim Jardine and his niece and nephews.
Special thanks to the nurses of 3 West, Dartmouth General and to Dr. Peter Crago.
Donations may be made in Brian’s name to the Canadian Red Cross, The Canadian Liver Foundation or a charity of choice.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Wednesday July 8 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. The memorial Service will take place at 2pm on Thursday July 9 in the funeral home chapel, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Reception to follow.
