Bernard Aalders
June 6, 1924 - June 29, 2014
Bernard Russell Aalders, 90 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully June 29, 2014, Dartmouth General Hospital. Bernard was born in South Alton, N. S. He was the son of the late Clinton Archibald Aalders and Emeline Amy Russell. Dad worked hard all of his life and had patience and determination second to none. Formerly employed with Nova Scotia Power for 9 yrs, Irving Oil for almost 40 yrs, he was well known as “Bernie, the Gas Driver” where he serviced the Halifax Irving stations for the majority of his career. Dad was a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved to garden, hunt, travel (bus tours), dance and fiddle music, which he would listen to for hours. His greatest joy was his family and made many a trip back to the Valley to visit. Dad’s body finally wore out and he has gone “Up Home” one last time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte (Lewis) of 62 years; children Catherine (Bob) Denault ,Ottawa; Paul (Dianne) Aalders, Cole Harbour; Jewel (Barry) Blakeney, Eastern Passage; Russell (Anne) Aalders, Eastern Passage; Sister Verna (Ross) Smith, Centreville; Brother Laurie (Joan) Aalders, South Alton; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his Sister, Onabelle and Brothers Foster, Eugene and Clinton (Oren). Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014, 7 to 9 p.m., Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Thursday, July 3, 2014, a short viewing will be held 11:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service 1 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 44 Cumberland Dr., Cole Harbour. Reception to follow. Interment Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Family would like to thank all the staff of DGH for the special care they gave Dad during his stay.
