Annie died peacefully at home in Porters Lake on January 23, 2016, after a 4½ year battle with cancer.

Born July 13, 1941 in Sheet Harbour, Annie was the second child of the late Lillian (Bezanson) and Alexander Holman.

In December 1960, she met Max White, who became the true love of her life. They married on June 18, 1966, and over the next seven years, welcomed three cherished daughters, Pam Lewis (Rod), Chantelle White-Evans (Art), and Crystal White (Dana). Her tremendous love for her grandchildren, Taylor & Emily Lewis and Nickolas & Benjamin White-Robertson, was clearly evident to all. She is also survived by brothers, Cyril (Barb), Eugene (Patsy), Carl (Joanie), and Leonard (Karen); eight nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Max’s parents, Myrna (Cameron) and Guy White; her sister-in-law, Joan Burger; and nephews, Robert Holman and Karl Burger.

Annie was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church for more than 40 years, taking an active role in the Ladies Auxiliary and Altar Guild, and was a long-time supporter of the Porters Lake Community Services Association (PLCSA). She was also an avid bowler, and enjoyed several years with the City Hall league in Dartmouth. As a young woman, Annie led both J.A. and G.A. groups at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, and worked as a telephone operator at the Maritime Tel & Tel office in Sheet Harbour. After their marriage, Annie and Max made their home in Mooseland, and in 1968, moved to Porters Lake. She worked side by side with Max in his excavating business by capably managing the “bookwork" for 45 years, which enabled her to volunteer at the school library and on field trips for her daughters. In the 12 years that her grandchildren were in elementary school, “Nanny” was proud of the fact that she missed participating in only one Terry Fox Run at O’Connell Drive.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Stephanie Price, Dr. Param Bains, Dr. Mark Dorreen, the VG 11th Floor chemo nurses, the VON and palliative care teams, and the many friends and family who visited and brought food during Annie’s illness.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, where the family will welcome visitors on Wednesday, January 27 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm, and a celebration of Annie’s life will be held on Thursday, January 28 at 10:00am. Private interment at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Porters Lake, will follow at a later date.

Family flowers only please. Donations to St. Mark’s Church Cemetery Fund c/o of P.O. Box 160 Porters Lake, NS B3E 1M2 or the Canadian Cancer Society are welcome.
