Alvina Cain
September 29, 1937 - June 7, 2013
Cain, (Simmonds), Alvina went home to peacefully to be with the Lord June 7, 2013 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in North Preston, September 29, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Harold Sr. and Olive (Smith-Downey) Simmonds. She was a member of the St. Thomas United Baptist Church. In her early years she worked at the Convalescent Hospital and the School for the Blind in Halifax. In 1967 she moved to Toronto Ontario where she resided for 32 Years. In 1973 she became a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Toronto where she was committed to many organizations within the church. Alvina was a devoted children leader as a Sunday school teacher for nine years which led to her role as the superintendent for fourteen years. Being a dedicated church member, in 1995 she then took her membership to join with the Shiloh Baptist Church Ministry where she became an ordained deaconess under the leadership of Reverend Eustace Meade. She worked for Lewiscraft for 30 years where she was an order filler supervisor. In 1999 she moved back to her home where she became a member of the Saint Thomas Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the North Preston Senior Club. Alvina is survived by her husband Levi, daughters Norma (Terry) Samuel, Christie Cain, Toronto, Mildred (Terrance) Gray, East Preston, son, Gerry (Heather) Simmonds, son, Jeffrey Cain, Calgary, daughters Ollie, Mary (Victor)Ross all of North Preston, sisters Muriel (Ivan) Willis, Linda (Deacon Levi) Smith, Rose (Raymond)Willis, brothers, Vencil (Genevie) Simmonds, Harold (Marcella) Simmonds all of North Preston, Ross (Ruby) Simmonds, East, Preston, sister, Marthlene (Gary) Chambers, brothers, James Simmonds all of Toronto, Lloyd Simmonds, Dartmouth and Pastor Galvin (Marney) Simmonds, Gibson Wood. Predeceased by son, David Cain, sisters, Eulah Willis and Margene Fraser. Visitation will be held today June 11, 2013 from 7-9 pm in St. Thomas Baptist Church, North Preston where a funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday. Pastor Wallace Smith officiating, burial in the church cemetery, repast to follow. Donations in memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
